Vanguard (Nikolai Krylenko) is a mutant in the Marvel Universe. The character first appeared in Iron Man #109 in April 1978. Within the context of the stories, Vanguard is one of the Soviet Super-Soldiers and the son of Sergei Krylov. He is trained as a soldier and comes into conflict with Iron Man, Jack of Hearts, and other Avengers. After dying and being resurrected by his father, Vanguard becomes the new Red Guardian and leads the Winter Guard.
