It is the first manga created & serialized in Japan by a Western creator before being licensed for an English-language release.

Francesco Francavilla made his professional comics debut in the Italian comics anthology Amazing Comics in 2006. Within the industry he has become known for his pulp and retro-inspired style. He runs a blog, Pulp Sunday, dedicated to this kind of work. His cover work is particularly noteworthy, he won an Eisner for it in 2012. He has worked as an interior artist for both Marvel Comics (Black Panther: The Man without Fear, Captain America and Bucky, Hawkeye) and DC Comics (Detective Comics for The Black Mirror story arc, which won the 2012 Eisner for best ongoing series). Most recently he has been focusing on The Black Beetle, a series he originally created for his Pulp Sunday blog, which is now being published by Dark Horse Comics. This series has already had wide critical acclaim and has been made an ongoing series as a part of Dark Horse Comics' superhero push.

Frank Miller is an American comic book writer, novelist, inker, screenwriter, film director, and producer best known for his comic book stories and graphic novels such as Ronin, Daredevil: Born Again, The Dark Knight Returns, Sin City, and 300. He also directed the film version of The Spirit, shared directing duties with Robert Rodriguez on Sin City and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and produced the film 300. His film Sin City earned a Palme d'Or nomination, and he has received every major comic book industry award. In 2015, Miller was inducted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame. He created the comic book characters Elektra for Marvel Comics' Daredevil series, and a female version of the Robin character, Carrie Kelley, for DC Comics.
